65 Degrees North President knighted in New Year’s Honours

The honorary President of 65 Degrees North has been created a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath by His Majesty The King in his New Year’s Honours. Lieutenant General Sir Rob Magowan KCB CBE has been President of the charity for over 3 years now, an ambassadorial role which he took on since he is an experienced climber and a passionate believer in achieving rehabilitation through adventure. 65 Degrees North is very fortunate to enjoy this support, since Sir Rob’s day job at the Ministry of Defence as Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff (with responsibility for Military Capability across UK Defence)is extremely demanding. 

Sir Rob has previously said about 65 Degrees North and its work: “As a passionate climber and serving Royal Marines officer, I can vouch personally for the power of adventure, not only to build mental and physical strength to prepare us for operations but to provide a focus on life’s everyday challenges, which for our wounded, injured and sick service personnel can be overwhelming and completely debilitating. I have been proud to be associated with 65 Degrees North since its inception, and have seen the life changing difference that the adventure provided by this dynamic small charity gives.”

 Aston Woodward, 65 Degrees North’s new Chair, said about Sir Rob’s honour: "We are delighted with the announcement in the Kings New Year’s Honours with recognition to our honorary President. Sir Rob has supported our work and the rehabilitation of veterans for a number of years and understands the benefits the charity provides. Last year he joined us in Australia at the finish of the Australia Trilogy and we look forward to his continued support going forward."
