Today is Danny's Birthday...
Published Sunday, 15th January 2017Today is Danny's birthday!
It will be a birthday like no other and he could be celebrating it on the top of Antarctica's highest peak in just a few hours!
The team have a massive day ahead of them. Roped up, they will ascend a long glaciated valley that leads to the summit of Mt Vinson.
It is bitterly cold this morning, around -38°C with light winds and they will be starting to feel the effects of altitude.
Danny has taken on this huge mental and physical challenge to prove there is life beyond injury and raise funds for The Royal Marines Charity.
Danny's wounds are the invisible wounds of war..
He was diagnosed with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and medically discharged from a career he loved, but with no visible wounds he finds it hard to explain himself.
Despite this he believes that positive outcomes can, and will impact on his future and he hopes that by sharing his own personal story he will help others.
Danny said: "Mental health is a taboo subject, nobody wants to talk about it. Let's just drop the stigma, let's talk about this stuff if it means people can have a better quality of life - that's my genuine intention to help people recognise that"
